Resurfacing means cleaning up, repairing and resealing your existing concrete instead of tearing it out and repouring the whole slab. When the concrete underneath is still structurally sound and the problem is on the surface, worn, stained or lightly cracked, a proper clean-up, crack repair and reseal gives you years more life without the cost and disruption of full replacement. We don’t bond thin decorative overlays. They’re only as good as the slab under them, and they crack along the same lines, so instead of a facelift that fails, we repair what’s fixable, reseal what’s sound, and tear out and repour what’s failed. Good candidates for resurfacing
If the base is solid and the slab is sitting flat and stable, a clean-up, repair and reseal can give you years of new life at a fraction of replacement cost.

Why the base matters so much: resurfacing only lasts if the concrete under it is stable. A sound slab doesn’t move, so a cleaned-up, resealed surface stays intact. That’s the whole test, is the slab underneath staying put, or is it moving? We check that before we resurface, because putting money into a slab that’s still moving is money you’d spend twice.
When resurfacing is the wrong call
These are signs the base underneath has failed. No surface treatment can fix movement, the concrete keeps shifting and cracks whatever’s on top. When we see these, we’ll recommend tearing it out and repouring instead, because it’s the honest spend.
Heaving or settling
Sections that have lifted or dropped out of level. That’s frost heave or base settlement, movement resurfacing can’t stop.
Cracks across the whole slab
Wide or spreading cracks that run across large areas, not one flat hairline, a sign the whole base is moving.
Crumbling edges
Edges and corners breaking apart usually mean water has been undermining the slab for years.
A failed or missing base
If the slab was never poured on a proper compacted base, resurfacing just delays the inevitable.

When is resurfacing not a good idea?
Resurfacing needs a sound slab underneath. If the concrete is heaving, settling, sunken, cracking across the whole slab or crumbling at the edges, the base has failed, and any new surface will just crack along the same lines. In those cases we tear it out and repour, and we’ll tell you so.
