Around a pool the surface takes abuse no other slab does. Chlorine and salt-chlorinator salt sit in the splash zone, the deck cycles wet and dry all day, and over the years that is what scales and spalls the top of the concrete — usually at the waterline and coping edge first.
If the slab underneath is still solid, that surface damage is a repair job: we grind out the spalled and flaking areas, patch them, pressure-wash the chemistry off, and lay down a fresh seal that brings the color back and locks out the next round. If the deck has settled toward the pool, cracked across, or rocks on a washed-out base, the honest fix is a tear-out and repour — not a coating troweled over a failing slab.

A restored deck still has to do the two things a pool deck is for: stay cool enough for bare feet and grip when it's wet. When we reseal, we can work a non-slip additive into the finish so the surface isn't slick around the water. On a repour we steer you toward a lighter color and a broom or textured finish, so the deck doesn't turn into a griddle at three o'clock in July.

Can you resurface a pool deck without replacing the whole thing?
If the slab is sound, yes. We repair the spalled and cracked areas, clean off the chlorine and salt, and reseal it so the color comes back and the surface is protected. We only replace when the deck has settled or cracked through and a repair won't hold.
Do you use a spray-on or overlay coating to resurface pool decks?
No. Thin overlays and spray coatings crack and peel on a wet, sun-baked pool deck, usually within a couple of seasons. We repair the real concrete and reseal it, or we repour — you get one solid surface, not a coating hiding a bad deck.
My saltwater pool deck is flaking at the edge — can that be fixed?
Usually. Salt and splash-out scale the top surface first while the slab underneath is still solid. We grind and patch the flaking areas, clean the salt off, and reseal. If the flaking is widespread it can point to a deeper problem, and we'll tell you what we find.
Will the resurfaced deck still be cool and non-slip?
That's the point of doing it right. We can add a non-slip additive to the seal, and on a repour we choose a lighter color and a textured finish so it grips when wet and stays comfortable barefoot in full sun.
How often should a Florida pool deck be resealed?
Every couple of years for most decks, more often for one in full sun all day or on a saltwater pool. Regular sealing is the cheapest way to keep a pool deck from spalling in the first place.
